Has your car tire pressure sensor started flashing yet? Each Fall in Utah the temperature drops and these sensors become our signal that it is time to make sure we are prepared for the change in season. There are three general guidelines to follow to make sure your car is prepared to ride at its best:

1) Tire Tread - Without the proper tread depth your car is at risk. Take the time to run to your local tire shop and have them measure your tread for you. If you want to do a quick test and have a quarter you are in luck to measure your tire tread. From Washington’s head to the edge of the coin is about 4/32 inch. If it is at this level or any lower you should be looking for new tires.

2) Rotate Your Tires - Check your Owner's Manual of your vehicle for recommended tire rotation mileage. If you cannot find your manual ask your local shop to check your tires and go off their recommendation. Most local shops will charge you very little to rotate. Typically, most tires need to be rotated every 5,000 to 8,000 miles.

3) Tire Pressure - As the temperature drops so does the pressure in a tire. Typically you will find the recommended tire pressures on the driver's door jam placard. Be sure to review the placard as well as on the side of your tires it will show a recommended psi. Don't forget to check your spare tire.

Auto Insurance is typically the highest expense for drivers only after the car itself. With so many costs rising, consumers need to be aware of basic discounts that can save hundreds of dollars annually. The majority of these discounts can be fairly easy to obtain.

1) Anti-Theft Discount – If your car has a factory-installed alarm, most auto insurance companies will offer some discount on your auto policy. This discount is easy to obtain with the insurance company verifying through the vehicle identification number.

2) Proof of Prior Insurance – This discount is fairly substantial. As long as you are able to maintain auto insurance prior to switching companies, you can be eligible for this discount. Not maintaining your auto insurance coverage will raise your rates. Auto insurance companies will see drivers as an increase in risk when they do not continue their coverage consistently.

3) Good Student Discount – Do you or your kids excel in the classroom? Take advantage of this easy reduction in cost for having good grades. When this discount is offered by your insurance company, it is typically as easy as submitting your report cards or transcripts to reduce what is typically your most expensive driver to insure.

1) Transparency - Make sure the auto body repair shop you choose allows you access to either stop by or see repairs conveniently online.

2) Communication - When choosing the right shop for your car damage, understand the process and frequency they will communicate with you. Make sure you are comfortable with how they will keep you up to date regarding your timelines and approvals in getting your car back on the road.

3) Auto Body Repair Estimate - Review the estimate you receive and verify the estimate is complete. Not only will this ensure your vehicle will be thoroughly repaired, but also will speed up the auto insurance company approvals to expedite the repair of your vehicle.

4) Proper Equipment & Experience - With the advancements in aluminum frames and boron steel, it can be expensive for a shop to update their tools and receive the proper training. Always verify the shop has both the expertise and equipment to effectively work on your car.

Car accidents can happen so quickly and when we least expect it. Over the years the laws have changed. As a preferred auto body repair shop, we are constantly exposed to the violent crashes that impact the families within the Utah Valley Community. We want to make sure that our clients are safe as well as aware of the following Utah seat belt laws:

1) All passengers must wear seat belts.
2) Children up to age eight years old must be properly restrained in a car or booster seat.
3) If you or anyone in your vehicle aren't properly restrained, you can be issued a $45 citation.
